Slumdog Millionaire

The touching history of Jamal Malik has turned to be a theater hit in the whole world and that is why, it is one of our Highlights of the Month.

The movie’s plot is all about Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) and the way he has to tell his whole life in order to prove he is not a cheater in the Indian version of the well-known TV show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”. From his life as a small kid in the slums, to his work as the tea-boy in a cell-phone company, Jamal narrates step by step what his life has been since it is almost impossible that an illiterate boy of the poor neighborhoods reaches the Twenty Million rupees question. The mixture of love, humor, and the approach to the life in Indian slums, makes this movie a onetime experience and of course, top in your “Must be Seen” movies list.

Tribute to Pi

On the 13th of March, our school celebrated one of the most particular days - Pi Day.

Pi cookies, Pi symbols and even Pi songs were seen and heard throughout our school on the 13th of March. The activity headed by one of the high school math teachers, Mariana Sarmiento, has become one of the most important and original celebrations in our school. Nevertheless, this year something really particular happened. It is well known that since 2003, a Pi string has been being built by our community. With color beads that correspond to a number in this infinite decimal, students, administration and teachers have placed them on Pi day (Officially, the 14th of March) and have seen this string grow throughout the years. However, a little mistake meant the loss of the beloved string’s head, so this year’s mission was to rebuild the string and of course, to make it larger, and at the end of the day, the whole mission was accomplished.

The Scoop Blog wants to recognize the hard work of Mariana Sarmiento, William Rincon and tenth grade students, for they were responsible for a mesmerizing Pi day.

ART TOYS COLOMBIA

Munny, pronounced [muhn-ee], is the greatest Do-It-Yourself toy ever known. This action figure has become popular among designers and artists, rather than children, and day by day is considered an artistic expression. The original toy is made of vinyl; white, 7 inches tall and movable joints, having, over the years, evolved into whole new looks that include random accessories and colors. A Munny owner can decorate it with pens, pencils, markers, paints, or whatever the human mind could ever imagine; clips, nails, ketchup, coins…

Munny art has come to Colombia through the past few years and it is now when it is reaching fame among citizens. Espacio Itinerante, a local foundation by and for artists has opened the wonderful space for ART TOYS COLOMBIA, an exposition that began in 2008 in the design center of Portobello, gathering 70 artistic works, and now reaching El Retiro, the scenery for the seventy little men throughout March.

The exposition presents true pieces of art sculpted, painted, and assembled by national artists like David Manzur, Gastón Betelli, Nadín Ospina, Elma Pignalosa and Germán Tessarolo. The money raised with the pieces sold is to go to Espacio Itinerante, whose purpose is to support several academic activities for talented Colombian artists with limited economic resources.
The exhibition is not only a space for inspiration, astonishment or pure art, it is the opportunity to find unique pieces, to help young Colombian talent, and to get inspired and enter the amazingly wide world of Munny.

It’s been a while since The Scoop Web is out, and it is today when we are proud to show the new, gleaming, fascinating and fresh Scoop Web.

With such a new year coming with new experiences to live, places to know, lessons to learn, and people to meet, The Scoop is on with new ideas, visions, conceptions, and with those, a whole new troop of articles, now entries or posts, for you to read and enjoy.

The Scoop has grown into a strong wave now, and it is time for its web to endure its path across the journalism’s ocean. That is why we want this blog to be not only an on-line newspaper for you to know about the latest happening around the school, but to get each of our readers close to the alluring world awaiting. And yes, we are aware the world does not need any other space to know about U.S elections, Financial Crisis, Obama’s government, or conflict in the Middle East, for those are abundant and easily found, day by day.

This is a place for you to express yourself, get to know the school at unimaginable boundaries, be informed on the city’s events and issues and get to fulfill your soul and mind with a bit of literature and culture. Therefore, we want you to be part of this project, not necessarily writing, investigating or taking pictures, but supporting and following this growing idea that upraises enormous passion.
